Paragliding is the closest to being a bird that you can reach without resorting to reincarnation! You are surrounded on all sides by open sky while enjoying the view from your comfortable, seated position. There is no engine noise, only the wind. You use what nature provides to stay aloft for hours.

Paragliding is the most accessible form of sport aviation. It's initially so simple that most students get their feet off the ground on their first day. And, the fast learning curve continues from there. Paragliding is a truly incredible sport!

Accessible and challenging! Getting started is easy, and yet there is also always more to learn and experience. Some pilots enjoy simple "sled rides" from the top of the hill to the bottom, some enjoy soaring in smooth ridge lift, others enjoy towing aloft, and still others enjoy gaining thousands of feet of altitude and traversing long distances. The current world record is 263 miles, and that record was set right here in Texas! And, when it's time for a vacation, a paraglider folds up into a backpack that checks as luggage on an airplane.

Learn to paraglide! Irrespective of the type of flying that suits you, you'll find that Air Addiction can help you achieve your goals. You'll appreciate the quality of our equipment and our approach. We utilize oral and written instruction, demonstration, video, class discussion, and flight simulator training. We emphasize safety, experiential learning through practice, ground handling, and micrometeorology. We limit class sizes to enhance the learning experience.

Virtually anyone can learn to paraglide, but here are few considerations:

  • Are you physically and mentally prepared? You don't have to be a great athlete to paraglide, but it does require a solid frame and coordination. Learning to paraglide also requires some running, so the more physically fit you are the better. You'll also need a focused mind and a mature attitude.
  • Do you have the time? You'll need about 14 full training days to graduate and fly solo. Spreading the training out over very long periods of time is typically not productive as we then have to spend so much extra time reviewing. Training is conducted in the Austin, Texas area.
  • Do you have the resources? Paragliding is amazingly inexpensive compared to other forms of aviation, but you should expect to invest $5,000 in training and equipment to fly on your own. We provide all your equipment during training and then set you up with your own gear when the time comes.
